Manydown, at the edge of Basingstoke in Hampshire, was a vexed project in which the local authorities were ultimately obliged to promote land in their control for an extension to the town through the emerging Local Plan. Many in the political and local communities were unhappy with this and we won an international competition to develop a shared vision for a new place that people could get behind. This work succeeded and eventually a project strategy and masterplanning brief was issued which we took forward with Tibbalds. Planning consent has been secured and a master developer, Urban and Civic appointed to develop the scheme. It remains to be seen whether the resultant scheme will rise to the vision that won people over.
