Manifesto for Remarkable Places

Turning 60, Jonathan Smales took the time to reflect on 40 years working in sustainability and gave a talk to friends and collaborators at FCBStudios in London. The centrepiece of this was a Manifesto for Remarkable Places. This was born of frustration, but also hope, that the built environment sector might yet deliver on the opportunities offered on a plate by sustainability. But with a hard edge, that real estate has no right to exist for its own sake: construction itself creates harmful footprints, so it can only be justified if it regenerates and provides opportunities for sustainable living.
